Papertrey December Blog Hop Challenge

After getting my recent order from Papertrey Ink I had to try a card with the Swan'sational stamp set and dies (I just love swans).  I decided to use the color palette from the pretty inspiration photo for this month's card Challenge.  First here is the inspiration photo.

I inked blended my background with the greens, yellow and pinks.  Then simply added the "Into the Woods" cover plate and the lovely swans.  A few bright pink paper dots to suggest flowers in the trees and a Happy Birthday sentiment finish my card.

Papertrey October Blog Hop Challenge

Fall is my favorite time of year and the inspiration photo for this month's blog hop is right up my alley.  I found the colors and texture in the photo a beautiful jumping off point.

The washed wood background was such a perfect foil for the autumn colors that I tried to create that effect in my card.  I started with white card stock and ink blended some pale blue (PTI Spring Rain), Mustard  and  Orange (Stampabilities) across the card base.  I then got out my PTI Background Basics: Woodgrain Stamp Set and filled the entire background with woodgrain images stamped in grey.  I then cut a corner from the scalloped Note Card die from the PTI Make-it-Market: Don't Forget to Write kit and added it to the side of my card.  I then embellished the card with die cut shapes and a Bountiful sentiment all from the Make-it-Market: Color Pop Autumn kit.  Last I tucked a few sprigs from the PTI Fancy Foliage Details Die.

Die Cut Stencil Shapes

I have been so busy I have missed participating in the Make-It-Monday challenges.  However, I just love the cards Melissa Phillips created with her die cut stencil backgrounds so I made time to give this challenge a try.  Truly one of my favorite techniques is ink blending so combining this with stencil die cuts I knew was going to be fun.  On this first card I cut out the leaves from the PTI Songbirds die.  I ink blended some mustard and orange ink in the background and then sponged some red lightly around the leaves. I then die cut a small scalloped square and embellished it with a few shapes from the PTI Make-it-Market: Color Pop Autumn kit.  Last I added my sentiment from the PTI Stylized Autumn stamp set.  I still needed something, so I added some texture with watercolor splatter.  I covered up my white shape with a bit a Press & Seal to keep it from getting any splatter and it worked great.

Since Melissa had done such a lovely card using the PTI snowflake and had to give that a try as well.  I used two shades of blue in my background working around the snowflake die cut.  I added just a few small stamped snowflakes with grey ink.  I used the PTI What the Doodle: Snowflakes Stamp Set for the larger snowflakes.  The sentiment if from the PTI Inspired:Hope Stamp Set.
Although you cannot see it in the image above, I did add some sparkle to the large snowflakes by using a Gelly Roll Clear Star pen by Sakura.  It gave the card a bit of shine that I liked.  The picture below shows that additional a little better.

SAF 2016: Masterpiece Inspirations

Such great works of art to choose from with this challenge.  I decided to try a card based of this painting.

I really was drawn to the blue background that made the flowers stand out.  So I decided to keep my card pretty simple and make use of some rich blue paper to support a group of flowers.

I tried to add some depth to the stems by added shading with Copic Markers but that did not show up very well in the photo of my card.

SAF 2016: Gilded in Gold

This challenge with Daniel Flanders was a whole new experience for me.  I had never heard of the Plaid Liquid Leaf product before but it was easy to use and produced amazing results.  I did a fancy birthday card for my project.  I chose to gild the Garden Garland Die cut and then add some vellum layered flowers.  A little pearl pen for the center dots in the flowers and sequins finished off the card.

SAF 2016: Starry Night with Amy Sheffer

This challenge was so much fun. Amy's design was so beautiful I really just replicated her card as best I could.  I actually made four of these cards and each sky looked different but I loved all of them.  Here is my favorite.

For my background I actually used watercolor paints.  That gave me the most color options and the closest colors to Amy's lovely example.

SAF:2016 Master Color Recipes

For this Master Color Recipe Challenge I chose the following inspiration piece for my card.  I love all the blues and greens in this painting.

For my card I ink blended the background, added some paint splatter and then added the doodle feather colored with Copic Markers.  I finished the card with a silver bow and a few sequins.

Papertrey Ink June 2016 Blog Hop

This month's blog hop has a beautiful inspiration piece by Yellena James.  I just love the colors in this picture so that was what inspired my cards.

I have one card where I ink blended the background and then added paint splatters on top. I wanted the look of light branches against the background so I cut up the "Into the Woods" cover plate to get that texture.  To finish the card I added butterflies and clear sequins.
This second card is simple and I spent more time with the ink blended background than anything else. This time I wanted layers of color rather than texture.  I love the "Don't Forget to Write"  Make-it-Market kit and so it was an easy choice to build this card.

Gradient Watercolor Die Cuts

It was difficult to choose the colors I wanted to try out for this weeks Make-it-Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink but I finally settled on blending a golden yellow, to orange then red, pink and 2 shades of purple.  It's been a while since I had my watercolors out so it was a good activity for me.  I used Windsor Newton watercolor tube paints to create the background for this card.

Masked Backgrounds

I love ink blending so this week's Make-It-Monday at Papertrey ink was total joy for me.  I created two cards using one of my newest dies, Garden Garland, that I purchased from PTI with this month's release.  The first card has a 1/4 in masked border with 4 inks blended in the background. I have goldfinch regularly visit my backyard, so adding a little bird to this card was a must.

On this second card I did a little different masking.  I cut out one of the shapes from the PTI Scene It: Skyscapes dies and used the sun rays to mask the background in the center of this card. I was pleased with the result and it was so easy to create.

Papertrey March Blog Hop Challenge

This month's Papertrey blog hop challenge uses the very unique artwork of Izziyana Shuhaimi as our inspiration.

I love the stitching in this art but I lack any any real stitching stamps or dies.  Therefore, I chose to go with a predominately grey background and add a pop of color.  My butterfly is heat embossed and then ink blended.

Ink Blending Over Heat Embossing

This week's Make-it-Monday at Papertrey Ink had us blending ink over a heat embossed image. As I have gotten better at ink blending I am finding I really enjoy it. What was so nice about Danielle's sample card it that it used a die I own in a new way.  I am always looking for new ways to use my templates and dies, so I was inspired by Danielle's use of the You've been Framed:Oval Die.   As a result I had to give her card design a try.

I
I experimented a bit with my Fancy That stamp set to create the card below.  With this card I got to do a lot more ink blending.

CTS # 162 and Simon Says Wednesday Challenge

I thought I would join in this week's  Case this Sketch Challenge with Sketch #162.  Here is the sketch.

My Card has some texture to background (dots embossing) and the top layer has a dry embossed rose design I applied by using a stencil from Tim Holtz in my Big Shot.  I tried to emphasize the rose embossing by lightly brushing a bit of pink ink over the top. My rose flowers, leaves and sentiment are from Paypertrey Ink.
With my texture elements I thought this would also be a good card to share with the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge.

February 2016 Blog Hop Challenge

This month's Blog Hop Challenge at Papertrey Ink has the most beautiful color palette. Our inspiration photo is below. The pinks and greens with some touches of gold are lovely.

On this first card, which is my favorite, I decided to use my into the woods cover plate in a slightly different way.  I cut the cover plate into multiple pieces so I could place it down the long side of my card rather than it's normal orientation.  I ink blended my background and added pink and green paint splatters.  Last I added the pink bird from the PTI Winter Woods Stamp Set to go with the sentiment from the PTI Phrases and Praises Stamp Set.

On the next card I started our with the PTI You've Been Framed: Oval Die.  Then I ink blended my pink background with a Tim Holtz stencil to add the stripes.  I shaded the small flower with Copic Markers.  The green sprigs are just small pieces from the into the woods cover plate.  The small flower is from the PTI In Bloom Stamp Set and the sentiment if from the PTI Fancy That stamp set (I really like that font).
I wasn't through with ink blending or paint splatters which both are included in the background of this next card. I got out my PTI Bold Blooms Stamp set again (I can't seem to put it away) and the PTI Phrases and Praises Stamp Set for this card.  I recently purchased a Misti from My Sweet Petunia and that has really helped in stamping nice clean and clear sentiments.  It was a worthy investment.

Papertrey Ink: Paper Crafting Alphabet Challenge

Today's challenge will be unique in that our card design is determined by an Alphabet of requirements.  I chose to go the easy route and used the first three letters of my first name.  Therefore my requirements are:

D = Add detail with a white pen or paper piercer
O = Incorporate some kind of Ombre effect
L = Lean your sentiment

How did I meet each of these design points? I added detail to my leaves using a white pen.  I used multiple colors blended on my background to satisfy the Ombre requirement and last I gave the lower portion of my card a good slant so that my sentiment placement had a nice lean.  To finish off the card I added a few colored sequins.  It was totally fun to get our my Fab Flakes stamp set and use them as my flowers.  I'll be using this set of stamps year round.

Dress Up Inspiration

At first I didn't think I would have a good idea for the Papertrey Ink Day 2 Challenge: Dress Up Inspiration, but I started looking though the great cards that others were making and decided this would be fun.  I love what everyone is creating and all the designs that are getting shared. After looking at my stamps it hit me what I could do, a sweater I got for Christmas was so much like the PTI Bold Blossoms stamp set it would be a good fit.  So first here is the sweater I took for inspiration.

Now here is my card.  It is pretty simple just a background of pretty flowers and a sentiment from the PTI Scripted stamp set tucked in the corner.  Although you can's see it in my picture, I did add some black pearl dots on top of the flower centers to give the card front a little depth.

Papertrey Ink: Grab and Craft Challenge & SSS: Ray of Sunshine

The PTI Grab and Craft Challenge was perfect for me because I am notorious for stamping something or die cutting a sentiment and setting it aside because I often try out a new item I purchased without a real project in mind (sound like any of you).  My drafting table that I work at pretty much always has these odds and ends lying around.  The card I made today was totally fun because I had just got through playing with the Petite Places Home & Garden stamp set & dies and I had a few cute but very tiny pieces that would have probably gotten lost in the shuffle.  As it is I had lost the dot to the "i"in my sentiment and had to cut a new one.  Lucky I found a scrap of paper the same color.

When I got through with the card I realized it would also be a good fit for the SSS: Ray of Sunshine Challenge so I shared my card here too.

Simon Says:Have a Heart

When I saw the SSS Have a Heart Challenge I had to try to create a card with a heart created from many small stamps.  I saw a card along these lines quite a while back but I just can't remember where or I would give credit to the person who inspired this attempt. It certainly was a design that stuck in my mind.  Here is my heart made of many little blooms from the Papertrey Ink Mini Blooms stamp set.  The sentiment is from the Papertrey Ink In Meadow Greens Stamp set. I added some very small outline dots using by Zig Markers.

Design Team Favorites - Papertrey Ink Feb 2016

The Feb 2016 inspiration cards from Papertrey Ink were great and I had really like the colors from several but I decided to try a card with Kay Miller's color choices.  Her card really inspired me.

I love the new Bold Blossoms stamp set that Kay used and since I just purchased it I have to give that a try too. By the time I completed by card, I have actually pulled out 5 different stamp sets and used something from each one.
I stamped by background with the a ray stamp from the PTI "Hello Sunshine" stamp set.  I then Stamped my flowers and leaves using the PTI Bold Blossoms stamp set and added a little more color to them using Copic Markers.  I also put a more detailed center to the flowers by using a stamp from the Bloomers stamp set. I had to stop myself as I was getting carried away.  Last I added by sentiment by pulling a stamp from PTI Bitty Bouquets and PTI Flower Favorites.

Valentine Ombre Stamping

This weeks Papertrey Ink Make-it-Monday challenge has us using a Valentine ombre effect on our cards.  I decided to use ink blending to create my ombre look and sectioned my card in the five rows using Post-it-tape so I could blend multiple ink colors.  After I had the base done I stamped a few hearts and a sentiment from the PTI "Happy Hearts" stamp set.  Last I added a few droplets to the card using Ranger Glossy Accents.

Case Sketch Challenge & SSS Wednesday:Anything Goes Challenge

I really admire some of the talented individuals who share such great ideas for those of us who just craft when time permits and don't always have time to experiment with design.  Kay Miller is certainly one of those amazing people and I followed a link on her blog to discover the "CASE the Sketch #157 Challenge."  As busy as my life is I will enjoy the inspiration from a good sketch.  Therefore, I gave this one a try and will certainly enjoy perusing the other sketches.

For my card I used Tim Holtz watercolor cardstock so I could to a watercolor background using a few of my Distress Markers.  I decided to flick a few ink drops after the background dried and then added by small bouquet and die cut sentiment.
I also submitted this card to the Simon Says Wednesday: Anything Goes Challenge.

Simon Says Wednesday Challenge: OMBRE

I love blending ink colors on a card background so when I read the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge I knew I would have to do something with ink blending.  I took five colors of ink, a purple, royal blue, cyan, turquoise and teal and blended theses colors from bottom to top.  That gave me a simple but colorful background for my die cut cover plate.  I added a few tiny black stars to finish the card.

SSS Stencil It Challenge

This week's challenge was to use a stencil is some creative way.  I decided to use my Prima Fluttering Flowers stencil to dry emboss the background of my card.  I just recently added to my Sizzix Big Shot the Impressions pad and plate so I have had some fun experimenting with the dry embossing technique using my stencils.  After adding the embossing I lightly blended some pink ink to bring out the embossed areas.

Make-it-Monday A LA CARTE

For this Make-it-Monday I decided to experiment with layering cover plate die cuts.  The original challenge video can be viewed here.  I used my peony cover plate and cut it in two colors, one white and one black.  I layered the black behind the white and offset the image sideways and slightly vertical to give the image depth.  For the background I chose a medium blue patterned paper so I could have nice contrast.  This was so easy to complete and still a lovely result.

Adding Color to Stamped Images

This weeks Make-it-Monday at Papertrey Ink was interesting and took me more than one attempt to get a nice result.  I only have watercolor pencils so my result was not as vivid as Laurie's lovely example but I still liked the effect.  I embossed the white background with a Tim Holtz stencil using my Sizzix Big Shot.

My tiny stars on this card are the stars from the Scene It Skyscapes die set.  I had not tried to glue such small paper shapes to a card before, but it turned out fine.
